Session Synopsis

The current political and economic concerns around the energy crisis and impending global recession mean that businesses need to act immediately to curb costs and improve efficiency.

With data centres consuming two percent of the world’s electricity, this presentation will equip delegates with the information necessary to start developing strategies to reduce their energy consumption, and so reduce the effects of the energy/economic challenges ahead. Data centre energy usage accounts for almost two per cent of global consumption. Many organisations are ignorant when it comes to just how inefficient their architectures are, and this can negatively impact operational effectiveness, the balance sheet and brand equity.

This presentation will investigate how business leaders can regain control by holistically reviewing their data centre architectures and employing initiatives to consolidate physical assets while increasing efficiency and improving the bottom line. Key aspects to be discussed include: virtualisation, consolidation, repurposing, eco-assessment, scalability, power consumption.

Who should attend this session?
This session will appeal to all delegate levels – IT and data centre professionals as well as senior decision-makers. This presentation will touch on all aspects of data centre design and operation.

What will delegates learn from this session?
IT and data centre professionals will learn how data centre operations can be optimised through the implementation of next generation solutions, and how this can in turn simplify their lives.  For example, by consolidating server/storage assets, physical data centre designs can be optimised to help businesses reduce operational expenditures (OpEx) and increase business performance.

For senior decision-makers, the ability to understand how the IT can help reduce energy bills will be appealing as this will directly impact P&L sheets and increase the organisation’s Green credentials.

Session date: Wednesday, February 25, 2009 - 9:00am
