Session Synopsis
Energy costs are spiralling out of control, claiming more and more of the IT budget leaving less and less for the IT equipment and management tools necessary to support the business.
IT needs to be in a more strategic and less reactive mode to ensure support for future business growth without a negative impact to the budget. The advanced machines in today’s data centres may be higher performance, but it often costs more to power them. IT equipment manufacturers are working to develop more energy-efficient servers, but in the meantime there are easy steps IT managers can incorporate into their data centre power management strategies to improve efficiencies and reduce power expenses, from desktops to data centres. This presentation will offer strategies for measuring energy consumption, calculating power costs, plus how to use the resulting data to save time and money.
In this session delegates will learn how to calculate energy consumption costs real-time and over time, and best practices for changing the way IT infrastructure is managed to utilise less energy while still supporting critical business requirements.
Session date: Wednesday, February 25, 2009 - 12:45pm
